Most people at some time or another will suffer with a small circular tumor on the surface of their skin commonly known as a wart and whilst it will probably be on either their hands or feet, they can be found on any part of the skins surface. Common warts on the skin may be passed to another person when that person touches the warts but it is also possible to get warts from using towels or other objects that were used by a person who has warts.
Even though genital warts are like most other warts, do not cause any pain (except warts on the areas of the foot where you apply pressure when walking) but are nonetheless highly contagious and can be contracted during any type of sexual act. Strangely, warts only seem to affect people after the age of three and women can actually have them inside the vagina and be completely unaware they are there.
There isn?t normally any reason to have warts removed as they don?t prove normally to be a problem but if they are the result of an incision then they can start spreading especially if picked at. Treatment of warts is generally carried out owing to the adverse cosmetic affect they have but it isn?t a bad idea if they become a persistent problem. A common method of removing them is by the application of liquid nitrogen and after a few treatments they usually drop of but this has to be performed by a doctor.

The human papillomavirus family of viruses which cause warts is actually quite large despite most people perception that all warts are fairly similar. In fact over one hundred types exist, known as human papillomavirus; some have very specific areas of attack including those that form on the genitals or anus.
The most frequently seen wart is that on the ends of fingers, often the result of a person biting their nails which can leave the skin tender but not everyone has the same problems with warts but why some people are more prone to getting them than others remains a mystery. Common warts appear most often on the tops of the fingers and hands, usually along the cuticles, as rough, thick, cauliflower like papules that develop on their own or in large numbers and often contain one or more tiny black dots, that are actually small, clotted blood vessels.
The small flat skin colored papules are in fact flat warts and are more likely to be seen on the face legs and arms sometimes in very large groups which may contain hundreds of them. Anal and genital warts are much more serious not just because they are highly infectious but they are in particularly sensitive areas of the body and can be found internally, even inside the urethra.
Often warts disappear on their own, although it may take many months, or even years, for the warts to go away but some warts won’t go away on their own and this is where over-the-counter options are useful. The most common type of treatment involves salicylic acid which is readily available at drugstores and supermarkets but remember that removing a wart with salicylic acid requires a strict regimen of cleaning the area, applying the acid, and removing the dead skin with a pumice stone or emery board.
