Warts are one of the more unsightly types of tumor that grow externally on a persons body and are generally most prevalent and the hands or feet but they can also grow around male and female genitals, even on the inside of the mouth. Some people are more likely to get warts than others in an these instances they can even catch them form using the towel of someone who has them but any skin contact could mean they will be passed on.

Warts on the genitals are very contagious and can be passed to another person during oral, vaginal or anal sex but warts are usually painless with the exception of the warts on the soles of the feet. To most people one wart is pretty much the same as another but there are many forms of the human papillomavirus which causes the wart. The 100 hundred different type of wart in the human papillomavirus group are quite focused in the areas they attack including those that are found in the genitalia.

Often warts appear when people bite their nails as the delicate skin is an ideal area for growth but some people are not as susceptible to warts as others although the reason for this at present unknown. This is the area the common wart is most frequently found, around the cuticles at the finger tips and recognized by the cauliflower like appearance of the tumor which sometimes grow in groups; the small black dots that are in the center are actually blood vessels.

Flat warts are small, slightly elevated, flat-topped, pink or tan papules and are smoother than the common wart but they occur primarily on the face, arms, and legs, and a person can have several, even hundreds of them. Warts that affect the genitals and anus vary in size and shape, some looking like large common warts to others that are small and shiny; they can even be found inside the urethra, vagina and anus.

Often warts disappear on their own, although it may take many months, or even years, for the warts to go away but some warts won’t go away on their own and this is where over-the-counter options are useful. Most people that want to rid themselves of warts or verrucas will by an ointment with salicylic acid as the active ingredient which is generally very successful at getting rid of them but it is important to follow the enclosed instructions to the letter as a strict program of cleaning is necessary.
