What Is Cellulite
Although not the problem it once was, Cellulites still causes distress to many women who have additional fat in the tissues of their thighs, buttocks and stomach. Men can have cellulites too although they are usually whiter or several shades lighter than their normal skin color. Normally, with good circulation, a person will have smooth skin layers, but when there is fluid in the layers, the stored fats, and other chemical toxins do not get flushed out of the system and become trapped within the skin. Over time this fatty tissue hardens and produces what we call cellulites easily identified as those areas giving an ‘orange peel’ effect to the skin.
The appearance of the cellulites will depend upon each person’s genetics, their lifestyle and the weight of the individual, all of which are factors in cellulite formation. Because there are different types of cellulites, even active and fit individuals can suffer with them even if they are not overweight, including the likes of dancers and runners because the cellulites are found contained in the muscle itself. The cellulites that cause the most problems are the hard or solid types because they attach themselves to the muscles and often affect more active persons. Soft cellulites, however, are much more obvious and may even appear to sag from the skin surface and whist they occur in larger, muscle areas, they are usually easily removed.
Unfortunately, it’s women who are most often the ones with cellulite problems and they can start anytime after they turn 14 years of age plus as they grow older, the affected areas become larger. Often, cellulites occur because a woman has started taking the contraceptive pill or has just given birth and even people who have suffered from injuries can develop cellulites.
What Is Cellulite...
Having the correct diet and plenty of exercise is still believed to be the best way to control cellulites as exercise will improve the circulation which in turn improves the appearance of the skin. Whilst exercise is good, it works better when working in conjunction with a detoxifying diet which should include plenty of fruits and vegetables. Try to eat more wholegrain foods but avoid wherever possible the likes of coffee and soft fizzy drinks.
Some people believe that eating spicy foods contributes to the cellulites formation but no specific proof that this is the case has so far been brought to light. The same cannot be said for those other two toxin laden commodities, alcohol and smoking which should be avoided. Whilst a low fat diet is always preferably for health, reducing the intake of fatty foods helps reduce the enlargement of the cellulites because fat is harder to digest and more difficult to remove from your body.
Although they cannot completely get rid of cellulites, cellulite creams are quite successful in treating and hiding cellulite. The creams that contain alpha-hydroxyl acid improve the elasticity of the skin making the cellulites less obvious but do not actually remove the cellulites. Removing toxins and fat from the body by using water therapy which also helps with digestion and circulation, has the added benefit of aiding in the removal of cellulites.
