Reducing Cellulite

Although not the problem it once was, Cellulites still causes distress to many women who have additional fat in the tissues of their thighs, buttocks and stomach. However, men can suffer with cellulites as well and are often seen as patches lighter then the surrounding skin. When there is fluid in the layers of skin, it becomes a problem because stored fats and other toxins become trapped and do not get flushed out unlike a person with good circulation who will have smooth skin. These tissues harden and thicken, producing cellulites, bumpy lines in the skin often referred to as the ‘orange peel’ effect.

The appearance of the cellulites will depend upon each person’s genetics, their lifestyle and the weight of the individual, all of which are factors in cellulite formation. Because there are different types of cellulites, even active and fit individuals can suffer with them even if they are not overweight, including the likes of dancers and runners because the cellulites are found contained in the muscle itself. The hard cellulites attach themselves directly to the muscle tissue and are the hardest to remove. The soft cellulites on the other hand are more easily identified because they are closer to the surface of the skin and considerably easier to remove.

Unfortunately, it’s women who are most often the ones with cellulite problems and they can start anytime after they turn 14 years of age plus as they grow older, the affected areas become larger. The contraceptive pill has been linked with acquiring cellulites, as has giving birth and suffering from an injury.

Reducing Cellulite...

Having the correct diet and plenty of exercise is still believed to be the best way to control cellulites as exercise will improve the circulation which in turn improves the appearance of the skin. Whilst exercise is good, it works better when working in conjunction with a detoxifying diet which should include plenty of fruits and vegetables. Whole grain foods are also greatly recommended but foods that should be avoided include regular favorites such as coffee and soft drinks.

Although so far unproven, it is considered by some that spicy foods may also help contribute to the formation of cellulites. The build up of toxins in the body can also be avoided by not drinking alcohol or smoking. Although a low-fat diet is not required, some dieticians recommend reducing the consumption of fatty foods that are eaten as these are more difficult to digest and to flush out of the system plus fats also contribute in the enlargement of the cellulites.

Proprietary cellulite creams are often successful in the treatment and prevention of cellulites but presently they cannot completely eradicate the tissues. By using alpha-hydroxyl acid cream, the cellulites are made to look as if they have disappeared by making the skin more elastic whereas all the cream has done is mask the cellulites. Water therapy is also proving to be effective because it seems to make cellulites become less visible as it removes toxins in the body as well as fat and also aids in proper digestion and blood circulation.
