Scranton Botox
For the last few years if you have wanted to eliminate the signs of aging like wrinkles, sagging skin and other lines then it is more than likely you would consider using botox as the treatment of choice but a great many people do not know exactly what it is. In order to appreciate just what botox is we need a brief history lesson into its discovery, quite a while ago now.
Botox may be famous now for it?s use in cosmetic surgery but it wasn?t always that way, as when it was first being studied by scientists in the 1960?s it was for methods to treat neurological problems in people. A few decades later after much research, the FDA granted permission for it to be used medically and the first patients to make use of the drug were those with eye conditions that included people with eyes that were not aligned correctly and those that suffered from uncontrollable blinking called blepharospasm.
In the year 2000 it was approved to treat cervical dystonia which is a disorder that causes severe neck and shoulder contractions and also a very unusual side effect of eye disorder treatments. However, it was the discovery of the effect botox had on reducing frown lines that finally won over the FDA who agreed that it could be used in cosmetic procedures in 2002.

Now botox is injected into a number of areas, one of which is the forehead to help lessen the effect of years of the muscles here causing frown lines to appear. If this procedure is continued, in many instances the lines will soften so much they will appear to disappear and now the same procedure is used on other areas of the face where lines form, generally with age.
Botulinum toxin can be deadly and at the very least make us unwell but when it is used in cosmetic procedures, the form used is one that has been cleaned up and diluted, posing no threat. The problem is that when we laugh, cry or make any facial gesture, lines and wrinkles appear caused by the muscles that have helped create the expression and botox can eliminate these lines.
When we are young and our skin is more elastic, these lines do not show but as we age the constant sue of facial muscles leaves us with lines and whilst many manufacturers have tried to produce creams that can get rid of these wrinkles and creases, unsuccessfully, botox can, at least for a short period. These injections are used directly into the muscles that control facial expressions, paralyzing them for a short period effectively making it almost impossible for someone to smile for example but the fact that facial expressions are reduced can give the effect of a doll like appearance.
A person who has undergone this treatment still has enough movement to provide some expressions but they are limited and because most of the wrinkles and creases have all but disappeared, it appears that the person is younger than their true years. Botox treatment is expensive with the average cost of just one Botox injection in the United States ranging from a few hundred dollars to in excess of 1,000 dollars depending on where the injection is used.
The side-effects of regular botox use may take some time to appear as it is only a recent addition to the cosmetic surgeon?s armory but for now, its use does not seem to be diminishing.
