Botox Treatment Hazards
The uses of botox seem to be increasing all the time but despite all the hype over its use, there is still a great deal of ignorance about how it achieves the results it does. Despite its recent rise to fame, the original research into botox is a few decades old.
Used originally for disorders of the brain, botox was first studied back in the early 1960?s and derived from the now famous poison Botulinum toxin. For patients suffering with uncontrollable blinking and crossed eyes, a treatment finally came in 1989 when the FDA granted approval for botox to be used on these patients and also for wrinkles.
By the new millennium botox had been approved for a number of other conditions including one where severe neck and shoulder contractions were causing discomfort to a number of people. Scientists found that if the drug was injected into the lines between the eyebrows it would gradually soften them and make them disappear so after tests, in 2002 the FDA allowed it to be used for the first cosmetic enhancement and botox had a new field of use.
Botox Treatment Hazards...
Botox can have this affect if it is injected into areas of the forehead that control the muscles there that cause frowning and after a number of treatments the lines start to lessen. In many cases the lines eventually disappear completely but botox can also be injected into the muscles of the face that cause crows feet, forehead lines and frown lines.
Botulinum toxin can be deadly and at the very least make us unwell but when it is used in cosmetic procedures, the form used is one that has been cleaned up and diluted, posing no threat. The reason people want to use botox injections is because every time you laugh, smile, frown, or for that matter do just about anything with your facial muscles, wrinkles are caused by the underlying contractions of these muscles.
When we are young and our skin is more elastic, these lines do not show but as we age the constant sue of facial muscles leaves us with lines and whilst many manufacturers have tried to produce creams that can get rid of these wrinkles and creases, unsuccessfully, botox can, at least for a short period. These injections are used directly into the muscles that control facial expressions, paralyzing them for a short period effectively making it almost impossible for someone to smile for example but the fact that facial expressions are reduced can give the effect of a doll like appearance.
People still have enough movement to look fairly normal but not enough to cause these wrinkles; so in fact by taking these Botox injections they make you look younger. Some will be happy that the people who can afford botox treatments are still the wealthy and with individual treatments in the low to very high hundreds of dollars it looks to remain that way.
Whether there are any long term effects from continued use of botox is still unknown as the treatment is still to new but for those people who do use it, it doesn?t seem to matter.
