Many people find it hard to believe that you can suffer with acne at any age and do not have to be a teenager. The figures speak for themselves with a massive nine out of every ten people having the complaint at some time in their lives.
Acne is the result of clogged hair follicles, caused by the overproduction of sebum, which is from the sebaceous glands but oil alone doesn’t clog pores nor does oily skin necessarily equal acne. Acne is the result of the sebum in the pores and not the skin itself although the condition does seem to be a modern problem and not something we have always had to live with.
Fortunately acne can be treated and one off the many causes of this condition is the hormone adjustments made when a person is growing up although it can also be as a result of makeup that has not been removed fully or pollution. Of course there are other reasons that can contribute to the formation of acne including the poor diet that most people exist on nowadays which is full of reprocessed, fast foods that are high in sugar.

Sometimes when acne is difficult to cure, a dermatologist will suggest a different type of medication which is more effective but may require more time to work. Having a dermatologist treat the condition is not such a bad idea as he or she will be able to better check on how well the treatment is he prescribed. During this time in particular it is important to ensure that fingernails are cleaned thoroughly and regularly as they harbor dirt, germs and bacteria that can aggravate the condition.
The problem comes about because most people do not realize that bacteria and germs cannot normally be seen by the naked eye and they believe if their nails look clean they are safe. So wherever possible, it is advisable to keep the hands, especially fingernails away from any acne spots.
The chances of perfect skin are virtually zero and you are more likely to suffer with acne if your parents also had the condition. However, in the majority of cases the hormones resulting in acne usually take place during teenage years.
Nevertheless it is still best to contact a skin specialist before you start any type of medication.
