It always pays to now what you should look out for when you use your credit card online. Most businesses that have an internet site are able to accept credit cards. However, many businesses that only have small sites find the problem is that people won?t buy from them if the site isn?t secure. If your web site accepts credit card payments it?s important that it?s secure so potential customers will feel comfortable ordering from you.

Websites were secure credit card transactions can take place have a small logo on the bottom right of the screen called [verisign]. While this is no absolutely guarantee that anything is secure, you can feel pretty good about giving out your information. Potential customers need this reassurance if you want them to buy from you.

You should always bear this in mind when you shop online. Using you credit card online is not safe on every site that may accept it. The verisign logo is a good place to start but you should look for something else as well. The secure ordering page on a site will start with https:// and not http://, look for the ?s? in the address because it means the site is secure.

Be careful when looking for sites that accept credit cards online, because there are many decoy sites out there that are made just to swipe your credit card number. It is actually quite easy to be tricked by these ?phishing? sites, as they are now known. These ?phishing? scams often start with an official looking email from your Credit Card Company or bank requesting you follow a link to update or confirm your personal information. So when you follow the link it takes the user to what appears to be an official looking site but is a complete fake. Once you enter your credit card or bank information, criminals can access your account at any time.

If you are unsure of the site, don?t follow the link directly but enter the internet address in yourself manually. So, as a get around, start up a new browser window and enter the web address in manually as you remember it. Remember that almost no one will ask you to verify any information via email. If there is a problem, they will call you. If you are still wary, look on the official website for a contact number. A site that handles credit card transactions and is legitimate will always be happy to answer questions if you are unsure about ordering.
