It always pays to now what you should look out for when you use your credit card online. If you have a business on the Internet, you have to be able to accept credit cards online. Problems occur for small companies that do not have a secure site because people have become very wary about using them. Potential customers are more likely to order from you if your site is secure.

However, there are a number of sites to be wary of because their sole intention is to get your credit card information. This new type of site is called a phishing site and many people fall foul of them. You should be wary of emails that require you to follow a link to update your credit card or bank details. Once you have followed the link it transfers you to a false but cleverly constructed website, designed to look like the real thing. The moment you enter your information, criminals have access to your accounts.

If you enter the internet address in manually you can get around this problem with ‘phishing’ sites. Open up a new browser and then enter the internet address in manually. Having said all that, you will almost never be asked to divulge confidential information by email. Any problems and they will almost certainly contact by phone first If you are still wary, look on the official website for a contact number. A site that handles credit card transactions and is legitimate will always be happy to answer questions if you are unsure about ordering.
