Credit Card Payment Gateways

Here is some useful information about using credit cards and shopping online. If you run an internet business you must be able to handle credit card transactions. Small businesses find that visitors to their site are less likely to use their credit card if the site is not secure. If your web site accepts credit card payments it’s important that it’s secure so potential customers will feel comfortable ordering from you.

If a website accepts credit cards securely online, it should be indicated by the use of a [verisign] logo. While this is no absolutely guarantee that anything is secure, you can feel pretty good about giving out your information. It is essential that customers get that good feeling when they decide to buy from you, or they may not buy from you at all.

There is something else you should keep in mind when shopping on the internet. Not every site that will accept you credit card is safe. You can look for the Verisign logo, but there is something else you should look for as well. Always look for a web address that starts with https:// an not http://, if you see the ’s’ in the address it means it’s secure.

Credit Card Payment Gateways...

Credit card users should be careful though because there are some web sites that accept credit cards that have the sole intention of collecting you card details. Phishing sites as they are now called trick more people than you think. It usually begins with an email telling you that your information must be updated, and then offers you a link. Clicking on the link takes the user to a website that looks exactly like the real thing but is a cleverly designed imitation. Once you enter your credit card or bank information, criminals can access your account at any time.

These sites rely on you following a link, by entering the web address in yourself manually; you can get around the problem. To do this, close the existing browser window you are in and start a new one, entering the internet address in yourself. You can be safe in the knowledge that you will almost never be requested to confirm confidential information from an email. If there is a problem, they will call you. It’s easy to check the website for a telephone number if you’re not sure. A legitimate site will completely understand your hesitancy to divulge credit card details and answer any questions.
